It’s no secret that video games have a less than stellar track record with voice acting. Recording a voice for an animated character is already a tough assignment, but video games add even more layers of complexity. The interactive and non-linear nature of games can make even the best actor’s lines fall flat if not carefully written and edited. But that’s assuming the actor is good in the first place.
Manservice. It’s like regular fanservice, but instead of big boobs and moeblobs, it’s studly guys in skintight outfits staring longingly into each other’s eyes. In short, manservice is intentional titillation made for a predominately female audience. At first it can seem like little more than a cheap ploy for ratings, but there’s a subtle art to fulfilling women’s fantasies that a select few anime can nail absolutely perfectly.
It’s an eternal struggle for teachers to get their students interested in important works of literature from years long past. Since the material is so old, it can put younger people off from reading it entirely, even though they might’ve actually enjoyed the content if their eyes hadn’t already glazed over from the presentation. He constantly shies away from piloting the EVA Unit 01 robot to save the world from monstrous angels, which is a feat that only he can perform. And while this seems like obnoxious character writing on the surface, Shinji’s thoughts and actions actually reflect real-world symptoms of depression.
